William Stirling was born in Glasgow in 1965 and largely educated in England. He has been a gold miner (Western Australia), a farm hand (New South Wales), a banker, a remittance man (South Africa), an aid worker (Bosnia 1992), a builder, a property developer, a research assistant, a political campaigner and a Scottish Parliamentary candidate. He is now writing his first book about Jacobite plotting in 18th century Scotland and France.
